My Master Plan

Lately I’ve been both lifting and running to get in shape. I want to bulk up, a lot, but I also have this ridiculous goal to run a marathon. The problem is, these are two very conflicting goals. Because the calories I don’t have because of running aren’t there to build muscle from lifting. So I have devised a master plan to achieve both of these goals!

Step 1: Sleep earlier and longer. I’ve been going to bed well after midnight and waking up between 10 and 11. I’ve been getting nine hours of  sleep and getting a late start on my day. Which just makes me busy and tired. So step 1 is basically to go to sleep and wake up earlier. For now I’m gonna try to be in bed by midnight and up by 10. Ten hours of sleep and an extra hour in my morning. I can finish my schoolwork in the morning and go to the gym after my mom gets home with the car, which is around 1.

Step 2: Focus on one goal at a time. I’m going to work on building muscle through the winter. I’m gonna either go to the gym or work out with Jeremy at least every other day. I might go every day and switch off between lower and upper body, I’m not sure yet. I really would like to gain 15 pounds of muscle at least. I’m not sure how realistic that is within the time frame for this in my master plan. I think working out with Jeremy will be very benefiting. It’s better to have someone to work out with, to compete with and motivate. It also just makes working out less boring and more fun.

Step 3: After winter, around May, I’ll start to focus more on running again. I’ll slowly incorporate more running into my routine, and eventually, I’d say within 2 or 3 weeks, begin running every day no matter what. I’ll cut back my lifting to only 2 or 3 sessions a week, and really buckle down on running. I’m not sure how quickly I can get up to marathon caliber distance, but for now this is my plan. I think with this plan I can expect to have the marathon done sometime in 2012.

I know all the athletes and body builders say “Routine routine routine.” So that’s what I’m gonna do. Work out routinely every day, and sleep and eat regularly. It’s the little things like that that will help me achieve these goals. I’m very excited to be focusing strongly on looking and feeling better, and being able to say “I did that,” afterward.
